July 3, 2024, was a special day for us because the Children’s Economic University (DEU) participants visited us for the first time and experienced the interactive workshop “Science Day with SAS—experiment and get to know science firsthand.”
We prepared an unforgettable scientific program for 50 students, which involved:
– Institute of Materials and Mechanics of Machines SAS – Candy pow(d)er manufacture – from powder to product sweetly and playfully,
– Institute of Polymers SAS – Plastynator – the path from carbon to plastic,
– Institute for Heart Research, Center for Experimental Medicine SAS – Heart in contrasts,
– Bioscience Center SAS – Electricity in cells,
– Institute of Experimental Pharmacology and Toxicology, Center for Experimental Medicine SAS – Nature’s First Aid
– Computing Center SAS.
During this event, children had the opportunity to participate in various experiments, learn about the work of our scientists, and get a glimpse into the secrets of science and research. Enthusiasm was felt in every corner of our laboratories, not only there. The Computing Center SAS prepared an engaging lecture for students about supercomputing and the DEVANA supercomputer combined with a tour. So it was something!
At the Institute of Materials and Machine Mechanics SAS, we involve students in physics experiments to help them understand the laws of physics and the theories they learned at school. Many had to recall in their memory, but in the end, they all managed the experiment, made their hydrometer, foamed aluminum, and toured our institute’s laboratories and scientific workplaces.
This experience left a deep impression on them and stimulated their curiosity and enthusiasm for science. We also hope that some of them will return to us as future scientists, ready to contribute to discoveries and innovations.
This day was an unforgettable experience for us all, and we look forward to meeting with young talents from DEU in the future.
