Our colleagues Lucia Kopčanová and Kateryna Ulybkyna have successfully completed their doctoral studies at the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology in Trnava, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, and have been awarded their PhD degrees. Their research focused on the welding of duplex steels and the resistance of high-strength alloys to hydrogen embrittlement.
Earning a doctorate involves years of research, experimental work and seeking answers to scientific questions. For both colleagues, completing their studies marks an important milestone in their scientific careers.
Lucia Kopčanová investigated welding technologies employing concentrated energy sources and their effects on the microstructure and mechanical properties of welded joints in duplex steels. Her research examined how these technologies influence the material’s internal structure and the properties of the resulting joint.
Kateryna Ulybkyna studied the hydrogen embrittlement resistance of high-strength complex concentrated alloys. Hydrogen embrittlement is a phenomenon in which hydrogen can impair a material’s mechanical properties and increase its susceptibility to cracking. Understanding how alloys resist this phenomenon is essential for their reliable use.
We warmly congratulate both colleagues and thank them for their contributions to research at IMSAS. We wish them stimulating scientific questions, successful experiments and opportunities to develop their own ideas as they continue their research careers.
